Concrete Laboratory Technician 


Job Summary

We are seeking a Concrete Laboratory Technician to work with our Concrete Technologist, the duties of the Technician are to support the production of nuclear waste boxes for UK Decommissioning and other products in this Sector by conducting routine testing, trials, research and development. The ideal candidate will become an integral member of the Amber Precast team. Maths and Science skills are essential for this role.

The ideal candidate would have knowledge of precast concrete products and the associated test procedures to ensure quality assurance, or a background in ready mixed concrete quality control, or construction materials testing experience, however experience will be gained and training will be provided.

It is important that the right candidate has good organisational skills to ensure the laboratory is compliant with internal and external standards and a high level of written and verbal communication skills.
This job would suit someone pursuing a career in concrete technology, materials testing or R & D.


Key Responsibilities

Be a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
Provide leadership by directing, coaching, supporting and delegation as the situation requires.
Develop mix designs for state-of-the-art ultra-high performance, fibre-reinforced, and heavyweight concrete.
Ensure the timely completion and correct reporting of test data to internal departments and customers.
Provide technical knowledge, problem-solving and support to the business 
Prepare reports, and other technical literature.
Perform sample preparation, physical testing, and other analysis as per applicable standards for all products and ensure that all testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated.
Maintain the company’s accreditation to EN 206
Be responsible for concrete production & testing compliance with ISO 9001
Be responsible for maintenance and calibration of batching plant and equipment
All other duties that maybe expected of a Concrete Technologist    


Key Attributes / Skills / Knowledge  

•   Day to day involvement in the operation of Amber Precast Special Projects laboratory.
•   To carry out quality assurance and compliance testing relating to concrete products in a safe and timely manner.
•   To maintain good knowledge of quality and production procedures, and to act where these may affect product quality.
•   To be an active member in maintaining a strong health and safety culture within the Amber Precast Special Projects team.
•   To carry out product sampling and testing in line with procedures and BS EN standards.
•  To Record results and communicate non-conformance, ensure the nonconformance is tracked against procedure with corrective     actions.
•   To Ensure that all laboratory test equipment is in compliance with the frequency of the calibration regime.
•   To complete all relevant documentation and test results, ensuring data input is correct and stored in the appropriate technical     compliance system.
•   To Participate with internal and external audits ensuring all laboratory documentation & practices conforms to the appropriate     procedures and BS EN standards.
