Restoration Mortar

Amber Precast restoration mortar is designed for the restoration of our cast stone.  It is mineral-based and free of synthetics.  The pigmentation—matched to the original stone—is resistant to lime, cement and sunlight.  Special formulations can be supplied in quantities greater than 100 Kg.

The restoration mortar  provides a very solid restoration, with good effect.

Repair Sequence
Step 1. Make sure the area you are about to repair is free from any dirt or loose materials.  If you are going to wash the stonework down, this must be done before any repair work is undertaken.

Step 2. When the area is clean, slightly dampen the area to be repaired with water, then apply a waterproof PVA to the area to be repaired (do not allow the glue to go outside this area).

Step 3. Then mix the dry powder supplied by Amber Precast with a little water so that the mix is of a stiff texture (only mix a small amount at a time). When this is done apply the mix to the area to be repaired and slightly overfill.

Step 4. Using a steel trowel or a piece of wood flat on the stone in a circular motion, cut away the excess repair mortar so that the repair is now flush with the original stone.

Step 5. Now trowel out any imperfections so that the repair is now as smooth as the surrounding stone.  If the repair has smudged around the edges, use a small paint brush and a little water carefully.  Clean it back to the edge of the repair so that when the repair has dried there is no white halo mark around it.

Step 6. For a large repair that is deep, stainless steel screws may be drilled and fitted into the stone and wire wrapped in between them to give the repair something to grip to.  The area can be rebuilt to a maximum of 20mm per day, scoring each layer till the desired amount is achieved.  Steps 2-5 should then be carried out again.

Step 7. 24 hours after the repair has been done, the area should be lightly rubbed down with a fine carborundum stone (if required) and a clear water seal applied to the repaired area only. The repair is now completed

Cleaning Safety
Clean tools, mixing vessels etc, with water before hardening of the material. Normal precautions should be taken as with any cementitious product.  These may include the use of barrier creams, protective gloves to cover the hands and forearms and a skin cleansing cream once the working period is over.  Any splashes to the skin or eyes should be washed copiously with water immediately when they occur.  Please see relevant manufacturers data sheets when using the impregnation products.

Keep containers closed, dry and frost free.
